What's the catch?
You may have read [here, or on various blogs that have been posting about the launch of the GROW MUSIC PROJECT], or even heard from one of us in person out at shows or during this year's SXSW, that Grow Music Artists get to have their best song produced over a few days completely for free, with absolutely no strings attached, in a seriously amazing studio and with the help of a veteran music producer and writer. And there's only one question on your mind... ok, so what's the catch?
Ready? There isn't one. The Grow Music Project is not going to take any publishing, or assign any producer points, or ask the artists to sign recording/label/production contracts, or assign any monetary responsibility of any kind to the artists/bands that are invited to participate in this project. The only agreement that a Grow Music Artist will be required to sign is one that spells out the rules of working in our studio, and protects everyone involved [i.e., that your drummer won't sue us when he trips over his own snare drum while in our studio.] The only other requirement is that you'll agree to let us show you and your song off on the Grow Music Project website, allow us to tell anyone and everyone we can about how great we think you are, allow us to give people links to your own website and point them to places where you will be able to sell and exploit the song that you recorded here [and anything else that's yours] in whatever manner you wish, without owing us a dime. Ever. At this point, we usually get a lot of blank disbelieving stares. "Ok... so why on earth would you be doing this?" Here's the simple answer. This is about us "Paying it Forward." When we got our start in the music business, some very nice people did something similar for us, and we think it's our turn to do something cool. Something fun. Something that builds a little positive energy in a business that can sometimes be a little lacking for it. Something that builds an actual musical community, one that creates ongoing connections and opportunities for it's members, and not one that you have to ultimately pay a dollar here or there to be a part of. And something that's more about the love of discovering great new artists and songs, and less about making money from them. We could go on and on about our feelings about the current state of the music business, the monumental challenges that indie [and even successful] artists face at every turn these days... but we'd rather spend that time making, recording and supporting some great new music. So, really, your risks here are zero. It's free to submit, and it'll take less time to fill out the application form and provide some links to your songs than it did to read all of this so far. So: Believe that good luck actually does exist in the music business... Believe in yourself and your talent... Submit now and help us discover you. WANT TO LEARN EVEN MORE? CLICK HERE. WANT TO SUBMIT? SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW OPEN! CLICK HERE! The GROW MUSIC PROJECT Launches!
2•1•12 - A big day for us over here - I can officially announce that the GROW MUSIC PROJECT www.GROWMUSICPROJECT.com is now live and open for submissions! This is our New Music Cultivator and New Artist Launchpad, with the aim of seeking out and offering some focused, talented, career-minded and deserving artists and bands a helping hand in taking their music to the next level. I'm also really excited to have a way to "pay forward" some of the good luck I've had in the music biz - I had some similar assistance when I was trying to get my start. So please help me spread the word to all the artists/bands you know, who might like to be considered! Thanks!
-CT- One Tiny Little Clarification...
So, with the debut of my official website, I thought that perhaps, right from the start, I'd clear up a bit of mis-information that's been on the web for quite some time. So here goes: I AM NOT 56 YEARS OLD, as is reported on the Wikipedia page about me. And well, I wasn't born on April 25th either, or even in New York for that matter. Actually, I'm from California - Long Beach to be specific. I was born in 1968, and in August. That makes me... only 43, which is quite old enough, thank you very much. And, most days, I feel even a bit younger than that... :)
Funny thing is, no matter how hard I've tried, I can't seem to get Wikipedia to correct this information. Now, I've learned that, should you come to find that you have a place about you in the Wikipedia infosphere, you are not allowed to edit that information about yourself, but must get third-party submission and confirmation that the info is in fact true. Which in this case seems pretty funny, because other than my mom, I'm pretty sure I'm the definitive source on this one... Anyways, should anyone desire to do me the very helpful favor of appealing to Wikipedia and updating this info on my behalf, I'd be quite grateful... you could say it'll even add years back to my life... And I guess it just goes to proves you can't believe EVERYTHING you read on the web... even on Wikipedia. :) Cheers, -CT- HAPPY NEW YEAR AND WELCOME!
